“We have the opportunity to be the first in the world to be hosting the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
“It’s a dream come true for all of us, for the community, for Canberra, for our country.”
The Commonwealth Games are due to take place in Canberra in 2020.
The event is expected to draw thousands of people and will be held in the capital’s new waterfront arena.
At the same time, the state Government has announced a host of initiatives including the creation of a national centre for information technology and the opening of an “interactive, collaborative and collaborative environment” for all Commonwealth Games activities.
Mr Baird also highlighted the importance of building strong partnerships and working with the community.
“We have a very strong, very vibrant community, we have a strong cultural fabric,” he told ABC News Breakfast.

So what we’re trying to do is to build a strong and very effective partnership between the Government and the community to ensure that we’re able to deliver the best possible experience for everyone, regardless of where they are in the community.”
